7:00 pm, August 30, 2016, Chair Leslie Orvis called the Royalton Township Planning Commission Meeting to order with Members Duane Swanson, Gary Valvoda, Jeff Schlaeger, and recorder Roberta Folkestad present.

Motion by Member Valvoda to approve the agenda as presented, second by Member Schlaeger, motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Member Swanson to approve the July 26, 2016, Planning Commission Minutes as read by Member Valvoda, second by Member Schlaeger, motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Member Swanson to approve the August 16, 2016, Working Meeting Minutes as read by Member Valvoda, second by Member Schlaeger, motion carried unanimously.

Old business:

There was discussion about the job description for a maintenance person. The board table with all the equipment must now be stored before all hall rentals and brought out before town board meetings. This will require that the maintenance person be contacted or given a calendar of hall rentals. There are two job description lists. One was made up for a newspaper ad and the other is an edited version from the planning commission. There needs to be clarification between primary and secondary operators, especially for snow clearing. There will be more discussion and clarification at another working planning commission meeting.

There was discussion about dust control on Maple Shores Drive and all town roads. More information is needed on beet juice and calcium chloride. If used, would all town roads be done, would the township do a mailing informing property owners about it, would there be less grading, costs and cost savings need to be calculated to decide if it is a fair and equitable thing, and roads also need to be built up before anything would be applied. It was stated that calcium chloride was used up north and cars didn’t seem to have any rust problems. There will be more discussion at the next working planning commission meeting.

The township received a copy of a letter to the editor of the Pine City Pioneer concerning respect for our gravel roads. It will be forwarded to the board for them to read.

A resolution setting building inspectors fees will be discussed at the next working planning commission meeting.

New Business:

The possibility of not reading minutes to previous meetings, as they are included in the meeting packets, will be passed to the board.

The next working planning commission meeting will be 6:30 pm, Tuesday, September 20, 2016.

The next regular planning commission meeting will be at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, September 27, 2016.

Being no other planning commission business, motion to adjourn by Member Valvoda, second by Member Schlaeger, motion carried unanimously. 7:33 pm, meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted:

Roberta Folkestad, Recorder

Chair Leslie Orvis, Member Duane Swanson, Member Gary Valvoda, Member Jeff Schlaeger
