7:31 p.m., Tuesday 29 August 2017. Clerk Duane Swanson called the Royalton Township reconvened annual meeting to order, with approximately 17 attendees.  The assembly recited the pledge of allegiance.  Due to the absence of 17 March moderator Nancy Dahlin-Teich, Clerk Swanson called for nominations for moderator.

Duane Swanson and Gary Valvoda were nominated.  By voice vote, Gary Valvoda was elected moderator, and he assumed the chair.  Moderator Valvoda noted that the only topic eligible for discussion and action was the establishment of the 2018 levy.  He reported that the 17 March annual meeting had recommended the following levy amounts: general fund at $155,000; road and bridge fund at $50,000.00; and fire fund at $14,000 for a total levy of $219,000.00.  Treasurer Wendy Tchida and Deputy Clerk Roberta Folkestad reported that the current fund balances showed a deficit of over $71,000 in the road and bridge fund and a projected deficit in the fire fund.  For the past several years the fire fund has had a significant balance and there was a purposeful effort to under levy in order to reduce the balance.  The road and bridge fund deficit was, in large measure, due to the construction of the additional storage building for the road equipment.  After discussion among the electors, Wayne Olson moved, Leslie Orvis seconded, to establish the 2018 levy for Royalton Township as follows:  general fund at $129,000.00; road and bridge fund at $70,000.00; and fire fund at $20,000.00 for a total levy of $219,000.00.  The motion carried.  The $219,000.00 levy will be certified by the clerk to the county auditor.

At 7:40 p.m., Jeff Schlaeger moved, Patrice Pearson seconded, to adjourn.  The motion carried and Moderator Valvoda declared the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted:

Duane P. Swanson, Clerk

Attest: Gary Valvoda, Moderator
